3 New Songwriters Wrote with Veterans in Recent Belmont Retreat

Operation Song® once again partnered with Belmont University, and Mark & Carrol Ann Ford, of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, to hold our annual retreat with veterans attending Belmont. The Retreat was held at the historic Columbia Studio A. The “Quonset Hut”, which recorded the classic “Crazy” by Patsy Cline, was the first commercial recording studio in what would later become known as Music Row.

The Retreat, which featured three new songwriters to Operation Song® — Matt McKinney (Sony Publishing), Cameron Newby (Seagayle Publishing), and Cameron Bedell (Liz Rose Publishing) — helped veterans turn their stories into song. These songwriters co-wrote three incredible songs with the veterans Dylan Flannery (Air Force Veteran), Bruce Hunter (Army Veteran), Brooks Herring (Navy Veteran). We can’t wait to share these new songs with you:

  • “The Call” (Brooks/Matt)

  • “The Spy” (Dylan/Cameron B.)

  • Title to follow (Bruce/Cameron N.)

We are truly grateful to Mark, Carrol Ann, Belmont University, and the Tennessee Arts Commission for their continued support, and we look forward to next year’s retreat.

Belmont University’s Columbia Studio A is located at 34 Music Sq E, Nashville, TN 37203. If you or someone you know would benefit from a songwriting session with Operation Song and you are active duty, a veteran or a family member who has lost a loved one in service, or even public service men and women, please do not hesitate to contact us today.
